OPERATOR - UTILITIES

The City of Camrose is seeking an energetic and reliable individual to fill the full-time permanent Operator position in the Utilities section of the Public Works department. Reporting to the Manager of Utilities, this position will be involved in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems and facilities. Water distribution and wastewater collection will be the primary areas of discipline with the ability to learn water and
wastewater treatment systems. This is a unionized position under CUPE Local 1425 and inclusive of a trial period as per the Article 12.05 of the Collective Agreement.

FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
- Ability to follow Alberta Environment & Parks (AEP) approval.
- Assist in the following duties and tasks; safe operations and maintenance work such as lab testing, performance monitoring, chemical handling, and repairs at any of the Utility facilities within the City, sanitary sewer cleaning, sewer manhole inspections, sanitary sewer root control program, excavation and repair of broken sanitary sewer mains and water mains and services, assist and operate the vac truck & water truck, operate valves, inspect and flush hydrants, meter reading and meter service work (installations, account read-outs and problem troubleshooting), weed and vegetation control around all facilities, providing heavy manual labour.
- Follow verbal and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
- Assistance with other City operation functions as necessary and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Water & Wastewater Technical Program and or Post-Secondary Education considered an asset
- Alberta Environment Certifications: Water Distribution, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Wastewater Treatment.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in water or wastewater facilities and water or wastewater infrastructure maintenance.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, trenches, elevated platforms, ladders, and extreme weather conditions.
- Maintain high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with the public and contractors in a professional manner.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with the general public and represent the City in a professional manner.
- Ability to exert moderate physical activity.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with the ability to obtain valid Class 3 License with air brake endorsement within the trial period.
- Must be able to meet the City's "on-call protocols" and will be required to participate in the on-call rotation within the Utilities team for the Distribution/Collection.

HOURS OF WORK: Hours of work are generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shift work, on-call and overtime will also be necessary to address operational requirements.

HOURLY WAGE: The starting base hourly wage for this position will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Base hourly wage ranges from $30.84 - $38.40 and will be determined in accordance with CUPE 1425 Collective Agreement, plus any additional premium pay as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
